Today, I took a daring step of courage and decided to walk to my office.
I had one of those office-sponsored health checks recently and my parents who had the luxury of time, experience, and concern went through it and told me that there was nothing wrong with me, except for my low vitamin B12, and vitamin D.
"Walk more!" They said.
I knew my maternal grandfather was an avid walker, and so was late paternal grandfather (basis my childhood memories, which I have also recently learnt are pretty distorted.) My parents for phases in their lives go walking in the morning, and currently they do. My father apparently walks some five kilometers every day.
I used to walk too. Back in college, with my friends. A group of us had for a good period of time made it a habit of walking every day post dinner. I think I was definitely more active then, and I definitely cherished those completely idiotic conversations.
I have no incentive to walk much anymore.
My work is 3 days WFH. I have a nice computer set up. My house has nice balconies where the sunlight streams in with as much a vengeance as Bangalore allows.
I did try walking to a nearby park and walking there, but the payoff didn't feel worth the effort (I am hustler, you know). I tried going to the gym (this worked for like 3 months, then once a streak of laziness hit, it could not be recovered).
So I figured, why not give walking a purpose, and why not just walk to my office?
Of course, I haven't actually walked the whole way. I guess, I covered like 3/4th of the distance or 3/5ths. Then I had the option of taking a bus, so took it. I plan to try at least one way walking this month and see if I can expand it both ways.
It was pretty pleasant. Bangalore's winds cooled me as I sweated, and the city is beautiful. I put on a bunch of random songs notably, Birds of a feather, Please, please, please, etc. I struggled a little with crossing huge roads, but overall it was pretty nice. My legs continue to ache in a nice joint stretching way, and I had a pleasant buzz in my head.
I will try this again tomorrow if my pleasant ache subsides.
6.5k steps.
